| Las Vegas NBA All Star Weekend... This is a big weekend for Las Vegas because Las Vegas has wanted a pro sports franchise forever... it doesn't matter , Football, Baseball , Basketball...Football is number one on their list... But Las Vegas will never get a Pro Football team... The NFL wants a certain image and Vegas doesn't have it...Basketball has been the first Professional sport to show an an interest... Because of franchise problems... ( Memphis,New Orleans and Sacramento ) these teams need a place to go, and Las Vegas wants to be that place... They have agreed to take NBA basketball of the betting boards... and Have gone all out to let the NBA know they are willing and able to handle a Professional Basketball team...They had free autograph signings with players who weren't playing in the game...Twenty-foot- high pictures of the All Stars on hotels on the Las Vegas strip... The Maloofs ( owners of the Sacramento Kings and the Palms Hotel) and Mayor Oscar Goodman have worked as hard as they could to get this Showcase Game to Las Vegas against all odds... They just wanted to show the world that Vegas, with it's two million residents, is a class town that can handle an event of this magnitude...The crowd starts arriving on Tuesday... and what a crowd they are... They look like they walked outta a Blackexploitation movie ( Shaft, Superfly)... An Urban Crowd... which is a code name for a "Black" crowd, it's a crowd that doesn't know how to act...In their four days in town, there are over four hundred arrests... for Drunken Driving , Theft, Drugs and Rape...People cursing at waitresses, not tipping It got so bad, twenty- four-hour restaurants, like Denny's, closed after dark because of the rowdy " Urban " crowds... It's not that Vegas isn't ready for crowds... they're not ready for hoodlums ...Many of the "regular" people went home a day or two early outta fear for their safety Five or six years of work went down the drain with the crowd I call... " Blacks Behaving Badly"...The press naturally attacked the NBA for having the event in Las Vegas and Rightly so...We know that most of the Blacks weren't from Vegas...But, it was embarrassing for minorities everywhere ... There was also blood in the streets... Adam " Pac Man " Jones an All Star National Football League Player and his crew got into a beef in a strip joint... shooting broke out... which left one man paralyzed and others injured... The theme of the weekend was suppose to be fun... but it turned into violence... This is was a perfect time for Jesse Jackson , Al Sharpton, and Barack Obama the Black leadership to make a statement... But of course they were nowhere to be found...This was a major image set back for minorities... We know what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas... But this will not be forgotten...
